Shillong, October 16: The San Shnong Youth Welfare Organisation (SSYWO) on Friday launched a cultural and entertainment initiative titled “Evenings at Elephant Falls”, aimed at enhancing the experience of tourists visiting Meghalaya while promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Khasi community.
The programme, scheduled to commence on October 17, 2026, at Elephant Falls, will feature traditional music, singing, storytelling, artistic performances and other recreational activities to provide tourists with entertainment during the evening hours.
According to the organisers, the initiative has been conceptualised to offer visitors a unique cultural experience and ensure that tourists have opportunities to engage in recreational activities during the evenings.
The programme will also serve as a platform to showcase Khasi indigenous music, traditional musical instruments and other cultural expressions, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the traditions and identity of the Khasi people.
Apart from promoting tourism, the initiative seeks to encourage local youths by providing them with opportunities to display their talents in singing, music, performing arts and other creative fields.
The SSYWO said the programme would help promote emerging local artists while creating greater awareness among tourists about the cultural richness and artistic traditions of Meghalaya.
The launching ceremony was attended by Meghalaya Commissioner and Secretary Cyril V.D. Diengdoh as the chief guest, along with advisers and members of the SSYWO and other invited guests.
The organisers expressed hope that “Evenings at Elephant Falls” would become an added attraction for tourists, combining cultural entertainment with opportunities for local talent and contributing to the promotion of tourism in the state.
