Tura, March 27 : The West Garo Hills District Police have issued a clarification dismissing a viral social media claim about a house being burnt in Chibinang, Chandigri, terming it as false and misleading.
According to police, a message circulated by a Facebook user alleging that a house was set on fire by non-tribals and urging people to gather and confront is baseless and intended to create unrest.
Authorities confirmed that, based on ground verification, no such incident has occurred in the area as claimed in the viral message.
Police have strongly advised citizens not to believe or forward unverified information on social media, warning that such actions can disturb public peace and harmony.
The police cautioned that any attempt to spread rumours, incite violence, or disrupt law and order will be dealt with strictly under relevant legal provisions.
The West Garo Hills Police have appealed to the public to remain calm, maintain peace, and verify facts from official sources before sharing any information online.
The advisory underscores the importance of responsible use of social media to prevent panic and maintain communal harmony in the district.
