Shillong, March 17: The East Khasi Hills Police have arrested four individuals allegedly involved in a series of motorcycle theft cases following the earlier arrest of a prime accused linked to a bike theft incident at Golf Links earlier this month.
According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District, the breakthrough came after the arrest of 23-year-old Shabamutlang Syiemlieh, who was allegedly involved in a motorcycle theft case reported from Golf Links on March 2, 2026.
Based on further investigation, four other accused persons were apprehended by police from Jowai Police Station. The arrested individuals have been identified as Vencentstar Tongwah (23) of Nongmynsong, Lumshyiap; Kitborlang Mawlong (21) of Mawsiatkhnam; Royalroy Lyngdoh (23) of Mawsiatkhnam; and Ayan Kharthangmaw (21) of Mawhati.
Police said the accused were involved in several motorcycle theft cases registered under Laitumkhrah Police Station and Sadar Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to stealing one Yamaha R15 from Umroi, another Yamaha R15 from Goraline in Laitumkhrah, and a scooty from Golf Links. They further revealed that the stolen motorcycles had been handed over to a person at Ladrymbai.
Acting on the information, a police team from East Khasi Hills conducted a raid at an under-construction building at Ladrymbai, Dongwah, where several stolen items were recovered.
During the operation, the police seized the following:
- One Yamaha R15 motorcycle (Registration No. ML05 AB 2991)
- One Yamaha Ray Z scooter (Registration No. ML05 AE 1478)
- Disassembled parts of a Yamaha R15 (Engine No. G3N4E0601845, Chassis No. MEIRG67HBP0013817)
- Disassembled parts of a Scooty (Engine No. E33SE0218026, Chassis No. ME1SEJ2H8N0016166)
Police also found that parts of the dismantled bikes and scooters had been packed in sacks and were ready to be transported out.
Authorities stated that further investigation is underway to uncover the larger bike theft network and identify other individuals involved in the racket.
