Khliehriat, January 30 : Acting on credible intelligence inputs, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the East Jaintia Hills District Police conducted a coordinated naka operation at Umkiang Police Patrol Post under Lumshnong Police Station on Friday.
According to SP East Jaiñtia Hills, during the operation, the police intercepted an oil tanker bearing registration number AS-11 DC-1200 and apprehended four persons. On search, the team recovered four plastic soap boxes containing 45.5 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth around Rs. 20 lakh in the illegal market, along with four mobile phones.
The arrested persons have been identified as Shymal Boro of Lokhra Chariali, Kamrup district; Matab Uddin of Khelma Part-VII, Katigorah, Cachar district; Ataur Rohman of Shiberchak, Karimganj district; and Biren Singha of Madhopur, Katlicherra, Hailakandi district, all residents of Assam.
Police sources said the apprehended individuals are suspected to be drug suppliers linked to a larger organised crime syndicate involved in inter-state transportation of narcotics.
Following the seizure, a case has been registered at Lumshnong Police Station under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the wider network involved in the racket.
