Shillong, June 2: Four teenagers reported missing from Jorhat, Assam, were successfully traced and recovered by Shillong Police from a hotel in Police Bazar after an intensive search operation.
According to a press statement issued by SP East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem, information was received on Monday regarding the disappearance of four children—two boys and two girls—from Jorhat. Acting swiftly, a joint team from Sadar Police Station and the Women Police Station launched a search operation and located the missing teenagers at JK International Hotel in Police Bazar.
The recovered children, aged between 16 and 17 years, were found in the company of a 26-year-old man. During questioning, the girls informed police that they were friends, while the two boys were cousins. The group had reportedly travelled to Shillong on May 31 for sightseeing without informing their parents.
Police said there was no indication of foul play during the preliminary inquiry. Upon receiving information about the recovery, a police team from Jorhat, accompanied by family members of the missing children, arrived at Sadar Police Station in Shillong on the same day.
After completion of the necessary formalities and verification procedures, the teenagers were handed over to the Jorhat Police team and their respective family members.
Police officials reiterated the importance of informing guardians and authorities about travel plans, especially in the case of minors, to avoid unnecessary distress and large-scale search operations.
