Shillong, April 7: New evidence has surfaced in connection with the suspected murder of Eilang Phawa, whose body was found stuffed inside a plastic sack in the Lapalang river on Sunday, strengthening suspicion that Kennedy Khongsit may be involved in the incident.
Prior to the incident, witnesses reported seeing Kennedy having tea with Eilang at a local tea stall. Shopkeepers recalled that the two did not engage in any conversation and remained silent, possibly because Eilang was not very talkative. According to those present at the tea stall, Eilang wanted to leave, but Kennedy allegedly restrained her and insisted that she finish her tea before leaving.
Further suspicion arose after reports that Kennedy had taken Eilang to his residence, but his mother objected to him bringing a woman home. Neighbours also claimed to have seen him with a woman that night, although they could not clearly see her due to the darkness, but it is suspected that she may have been Eilang.
Another point raising suspicion is that Kennedy worked in R.R. Colony, which is also the area where Eilang was last reported missing. Police are currently examining CCTV footage collected from various locations to confirm whether Kennedy Khongsit was directly involved or if others may also be connected to the crime.
The post-mortem examination of Eilang’s body was conducted on Tuesday at NEIGRHIMS Hospital. Following this, her family members took custody of the body and transported it to Musiaw village in West Jaiñtia Hills District to perform the last rites.
