Fugitive Arrested in Kerala After 4 Years on the Run

Nongpoh, March 9 : A man who escaped from police custody in RiBhoi over four years ago has been apprehended in Kerala and brought back to Meghalaya to face justice.

Ranjan Borgohain, accused in a theft case registered at Khanapara Police Station in RiBhoi District, escaped from custody on November 20, 2020. He had been evading arrest for over four years.

Earlier this week, Meghalaya Police received information that Borgohain was working as a laborer in an industrial unit in Perumbavoor, Kerala. They alerted Kerala Police and requested their assistance in apprehending the fugitive.

On March 7th, 2025, Ernakulum Police successfully apprehended Borgohain. A team from Ri-Bhoi District Police then traveled to Kerala, formally arrested him, and obtained transit remand from a local court.

Borgohain was brought back to Meghalaya and produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Nongpoh today. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

Meghalaya Police expressed gratitude to Kerala Police for their prompt response and cooperation in apprehending the absconding accused.
