Shillong, February 18 : The Government of Meghalaya has announced that February 21, 2025, will be observed as a general holiday in multiple districts across the state, in observance of the General Elections to the Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Councils.
The official notification, issued by the Governor of Meghalaya, covers the districts of East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, East Jaintia Hills, and West Jaintia Hills. The holiday is in line with the upcoming elections to the two Autonomous District Councils.
In addition, government employees working in the Garo Hills who are electors in the Khasi Hills or Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Councils will be granted Special Leave. Workers in industrial establishments governed by the N.I. Act, 1881, shops, and those working on shift basis, including daily wage and casual workers, will also be entitled to a paid holiday.
The government emphasized that the provisions under Section 133(2)(b) ensure that workers in the specified constituencies are granted a paid holiday to participate in the election process.
The Governor of Meghalaya has also issued a directive granting Special Leave to Central Government employees in the state who are electors in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council. The leave will be observed on February 21, 2025, in light of the upcoming General Elections to the two Autonomous District Councils.
