Gorkha Pathshala HSS Tops SSLC 2026 as School Marks 150 Years

SHILLONG, APR 7: Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School, Shillong has secured the top position for the first time in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination results declared by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) on Tuesday.

The school’s achievement this year comes after Wangaal Lama secured the first position with 585 marks. The accomplishment has brought immense joy to the school authorities, especially as the institution is also celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.

Vishal Kumar of Embee Rosebud Higher Secondary School, Tura secured the second position with 576 marks. The third position was shared by Prajukta Roy of Seven Set Higher Secondary School, Shillong and Prinita Das of Pechon A Sangma Memorial Police Public Secondary School, Tura, who both secured 575 marks.

In the SSLC results, the overall pass percentage for 2026 stands at 86.84 percent, slightly lower than last year’s 87.10 percent. Out of 48,623 students from 719 schools who appeared for the examination across 171 centres, a total of 42,228 students passed. Among those who passed, 33,124 cleared all six subjects while 9,104 passed in five subjects. This year, only 49 students made it to the Top 20 Merit List, a drop from 85 students in the previous year.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, in a message posted on social media platform X, congratulated the students who passed the SSLC examination and especially appreciated the teachers. “The overall pass percentage of 86.84 percent reflects the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, and the entire education department,” he said, adding, “The government is committed to supporting every child to become a shining star in their future.”

Among districts, West Jaiñtia Hills recorded the highest pass percentage at 94.99 percent, followed by South West Khasi Hills at 94.60 percent and East Khasi Hills at 94.17 percent. East Garo Hills recorded the lowest pass percentage at 72.33 percent, followed by North Garo Hills at 72.70 percent and South West Garo Hills at 74.54 percent.

Among different categories, students from the General category performed the best, with a pass percentage of 94.14 percent among boys and 92.88 percent among girls. Students from the OBC category also performed well, with a pass percentage of 92 percent. Among Scheduled Tribe students, girls performed slightly better than boys, with 86.50 percent compared to 86.19 percent. In the Scheduled Caste category, boys recorded a pass percentage of 90.09 percent while girls registered 86.46 percent.
