Shillong, August 27 : The 2nd Purple Fair 2025 was held today at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong, organized by the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE), Shillong, in collaboration with the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Government of Meghalaya.
The fair witnessed the participation of over 687 attendees, including 325 Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), along with their families, caregivers, NGOs, and officials, making it a vibrant platform for inclusion and empowerment.
Speaking as the Chief Guest, Paul Lyngdoh, Minister of Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, stressed the need to ensure equal opportunities for PwDs, with focus on vocational training, accessibility in infrastructure, and financial assistance. He reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to creating an inclusive Meghalaya.
The day-long event featured awareness sessions, exhibitions of assistive devices and vocational products, cultural performances, and inclusive sports activities, all aimed at showcasing the skills, creativity, and resilience of PwDs.
A key highlight was the presence of Prisca Pyngrope, Purple Fair Ambassador, who inspired participants with her message of empowerment and advocacy for disability rights.
The fair also highlighted the proactive initiatives of CRCSRE Shillong in the areas of training, rehabilitation, healthcare, and accessibility and the pivotal contributions of event coordinators, Pranami Barua and Rajesh Chettri, and the Director of CRCSRE, Dr. Ram Shakal Sahani. The fair reinforced the vital role of both government and civil society in supporting PwDs and affirmed Meghalaya’s commitment to building a more inclusive, dignified, and equitable society.
The 2nd Purple Fair 2025 successfully combined policy focus with community participation, strengthening the collective resolve to build a more inclusive society for Persons with Disabilities in Meghalaya.
The programme was attended by Camelia Doreen Lyngwa, MCS, Director, Social Welfare Department; L. Kynjing, MCS, Commissioner for PwDs; Dalikynti Kharshing, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District; and Bridget Warshong, Deputy Commissioner for PwDs, Government of Meghalaya.
