Government Declares November 6 as Local Holiday in East Khasi Hills for Nongkrem Dance Festival

Shillong, October 24 : The Government of Meghalaya has declared November 6, 2025, as a local holiday in the East Khasi Hills District on account of the Nongkrem Dance Festival, one of the most significant traditional festivals of the Khasi community.

According to an Office Order issued by the General Administration (A) Department, all State Government offices, Revenue and Magisterial Courts, and educational institutions within the district will remain closed on the day of the festival. However, the order does not apply to Central Government offices.

The Nongkrem Dance, held annually at Smit, is a major traditional festival of the Khyrim Syiemship, celebrating thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest and prayers for peace and prosperity. The festival draws thousands of visitors from across Meghalaya and beyond.
