Shillong, June 27 : The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills, R.M. Kurbah, IAS, has issued an order prohibiting heavy loaded vehicles, including Night Super buses, from plying along Demseiniong Locality’s Macabe Road. The decision, made under Section 163 BNSS, comes in response to significant damage to the road and infrastructure, as well as safety risks posed by such vehicles.
According to the order, Macabe Road is classified as an Urban Bituminous Road and was not designed to accommodate heavy loaded vehicles. Information received by the District Magistrate’s office indicates that the continued movement of these heavy vehicles has caused damage to portions of the road, electric poles, footpaths, and the retaining walls of local residents’ properties.
Furthermore, the narrow width of Macabe Road, which is not suitable for such large vehicles, poses a considerable danger to emergency services, pedestrians, and general traffic. The Magistrate noted that this situation creates a likelihood of total disruption in vehicular traffic at any given point, necessitating immediate action to prevent further damage and ensure public safety and security.
