HITO Opposes IGGL Gas Pipeline Alignment Through Diengpasoh, Seeks Route Change

Shillong, July 15: The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO), Central Body, has urged the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Mawryngkneng C&RD Block to intervene in the proposed alignment of the Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) pipeline through Diengpasoh village, citing concerns over public safety and future development.

In a representation submitted to the BDO, HITO said the residents of Diengpasoh have strongly objected to the proposed pipeline route, alleging that it is planned to pass through the heart of the village in close proximity to residential houses and inhabited areas.

According to the organisation, villagers fear that laying the pipeline through densely populated areas could pose significant safety risks to lives and property while also affecting the village’s future expansion and planned development.

HITO requested the authorities to review and realign the proposed pipeline route, suggesting that it be diverted through nearby forest areas or other suitable non-residential land to minimise its impact on the local community and enhance public safety.

The organisation stated that the concerns of the villagers deserve careful consideration before any work on the project proceeds, adding that a thorough review of the alignment would help address public apprehensions while ensuring the project is implemented without compromising the safety and welfare of residents.

HITO also appealed to the BDO to take necessary steps at the earliest to facilitate an appropriate resolution in the best interest of the people, while ensuring public safety, peace and overall community welfare.
