Shillong, September 28 : Vice Chairman of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) Sufiyan A Hazarika aka Manbhalang Jyrwa on Thursday tendered his resignation letter, which was accepted by the outfit’s Central Executive Committee (CEC).
In his place, Teimiki Laloo has been appointed as the new Vice Chairman of the HNLC.
The development has also come at a time when the peace talks between the HNLC and Centre and State governments is going on.
In a statement issued here, HNLC general secretary-cum-publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said that Jyrwa’s resignation has been accepted on humanitarian considerations and that Teimiki Laloo has been appointed as the new vice chairman for a duration of six months.
Nongtraw also said that Jyrwa’s resignation will not have any detrimental impact on the peace talks and that the delegation in charge of leading the peace process will be guided by the newly appointed Vice Chairman, Teimiki Laloo.
The HNLC has also asked the government to refrain from exploiting Jyrwa’s resignation and instead prioritize the peace talks.
