Shillong, September 17: The Hynñiewtrep Youths Council (HYC) on Thursday sought clarification and action from the management of Kendriya Vidyalaya NEHU, Shillong, following a complaint by parents alleging that a Class VI student was assaulted by a vocational subject teacher.
Speaking to the media, HYC Education Cell secretary Enlang Sawian said the alleged incident took place on the morning of September 16 while teacher Rahul Rawat was conducting a Class VI class.
According to the HYC, some students were allegedly not paying attention during the class, following which Rawat is accused of calling one of the students forward and striking him on the back. The organisation claimed that the student subsequently experienced difficulty in breathing for some time. Sawian said the incident came to the attention of the student’s parents after his classmates informed them following school hours.
The HYC has demanded that Rawat be barred from attending school until the Principal, who is currently in Tripura, returns and holds discussions with the concerned parties over the matter. The organisation said the issue should be resolved only after a proper inquiry and discussion involving the school authorities, the parents and other concerned parties. Rawat, however, has reportedly denied the allegation, maintaining that he neither assaulted nor physically touched the student.
