Shillong, March 21 : IIM Shillong, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Forests & Environment Department, commemorated International Forest Day 2025 by hosting a Plantation Drive centered on the theme “Forest and Food,” emphasizing the crucial need for sustainable practices.
R. S. Gill, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force (HoFF), Meghalaya, the Chief Guest, highlighted the vital role of forests in maintaining ecological balance and ensuring food security. He stressed the importance of preserving traditional knowledge, promoting tree plantation drives, and adopting eco-friendly practices for a sustainable future.
Prof. DP Goyal, Director of IIM Shillong, expressed his appreciation for the Forests & Environment Department’s initiative and pledged the institute’s commitment to strengthening future collaborative efforts.
The event was also graced by D. Sathiyan, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Social Forestry & Environment), and Ms. Heisa Lato, Divisional Forest Officer, Social Forestry Division, whose contributions emphasized the necessity of collaborative strategies for effective and sustainable forest management.
The plantation drive served as a practical demonstration of the partnership’s commitment to environmental stewardship and raising awareness about the interconnectedness of forests and food security.
