India’s Northeastern land ports barred for select Bangladeshi goods

New Delhi, May 17 : The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, has issued Notification No. 07/2025-26 dated May 17, 2025, introducing a significant amendment to the Import Policy under ITC (HS), 2022 Schedule 1. This notification enforces new port restrictions on the import of selected goods from Bangladesh to India, effective immediately.

Port Restrictions on Specific Goods

Under the revised guidelines, the following items are now subject to port-specific import restrictions:

(iv)Cotton and Cotton Yarn WasteSame port restrictions as item (ii).
(v)Plastic and PVC Finished Goods (e.g., dyes, plasticisers, granules)Same port restrictions as item (ii).
(vi)Wooden FurnitureSame port restrictions as item (ii).
Exemptions
  • These restrictions do not apply to imports of Fish, LPG, Edible Oil, and Crushed Stone from Bangladesh.
  • The restrictions are also not applicable to goods exported by Bangladesh to Nepal and Bhutan via Indian territory.
