Shillong, October 16 : A total of twenty-four young individuals hailing from twelve districts of Meghalaya recently engaged in the International Exposure Youth Programme to Vietnam 2025 held from 29th September to 9th October 2025. This initiative was organized under the Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme and the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA).
The programme aimed to broaden the views of Meghalaya’s youth by allowing them to observe and learn from Vietnam’s history, cultural heritage, and development journey. The participants explored core historical and cultural places across cities including Hanoi, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, and Ho Chi Minh City. They were introduced to Vietnam’s hardships in war times, its tremendous change, and growth into a lively and developing nation. The delegation also took part in interactive sessions, cultural exchanges, and team-building activities to foster teamwork, that could help them contribute as change-makers in Meghalaya.
Speaking about the visit, D. D. Shira, MCS, Director, Sports & Youth Affairs stated that the programme exemplifies the government’s commitment to fostering globally aware and socially responsible youth. “When young individuals venture beyond their familiar surroundings and immerse themselves in diverse nations and cultures, they acquire fresh perspectives, boost their self-confidence, and discover a renewed sense of purpose,” he said. D. D. Shira also added that such initiatives encourage the youth to return with their experiences, enabling them to make significant contributions to their communities and to the
advancement of the State.
Bobby Wahlang, Youth Programme Coordinator emphasized that the exposure visit is more than just travel; but about acquiring knowledge through authentic real-world experiences. He added that the programme’s aim is to promote the qualities of leadership, teamwork, and global diversity appreciation as well as to motivate the young participants to act as ambassadors of the rich culture and values of Meghalaya. Bobby Wahlang also expressed his appreciation to the government, officials, and collaborators who facilitated the journey.
The International Exposure Youth Programme 2025 is part of a broader programme of an ongoing series of initiatives aimed at youth development, falling under the Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme. Since its inception, the programme has offered numerous youths, both nationally and internationally, the chance to gain exposure, fostering their confidence, adaptability, and having a broader understanding of the world. In the month of April 2025, 67 youths from the state of Meghalaya went to Tawang to participate in the National Exposure Youth Programme 2025. Since 2014, 10,000 young people from Meghalaya have benefitted through significant exposure opportunities.
Besides strengthening international ties, promoting cross-cultural understanding and fostering friendships, these visits give young people deep insights into the areas of leadership, culture, and global citizenship. They also contribute to the development of the next generation of youth into leaders who will support the state’s growth.
