Shillong, Jymmang, 11: The Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, held its 5 th Convocation Ceremony at the College of Fisheries, Lembucherra, celebrating academic excellence and a commitment to nation-building.
The event witnessed the conferment of degrees to over 1,500 students from 28 states, graduating across 13 constituent colleges located throughout the Northeast region. The ceremony marked the awarding of Doctoral, Postgraduate, and Graduate degrees in agriculture and allied sciences.
A total of 33 undergraduate and 20 postgraduate students were honoured with Gold Medals, while the prestigious Akoijam Udhab Singh Memorial Award was presented to nine (09) outstanding doctoral scholars. Among the gold medalists, four students from different academic batches belong to the College of Agriculture, CAU-Imphal, Kyrdemkulai, Meghalaya, under the Faculty of Agriculture.
Prof. lndira Sarangthem, Director of lnstruction, Dean, and Chairman of the Board of Studies, presented the candidates for the conferment of degrees. Dr. T. R. Sharma, Registrar, led the academic procession and presented the candidates for the award of University Gold Medals and Memorial Medals. In a unique cultural touch, graduates wore traditional attire representing their respective states, paired with the university's ethnic convocation dress of Kurta, Pyjama, Waistcoat, and Uttariya.
The convocation was successfully hosted at the College of Fisheries campus in Lembucherra, Tripura. The efforts of the college, Dean, Prof. A. B. Patel, and its team were warmly appreciated by the dignitaries for the excellent organization and hospitality, contributing to the event’s overall grandeur and smooth execution.
Dr. V. Narayanan, Hon’ble Chairman, ISRO and Secretary, Department of Space, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
In his keynote address, he congratulated the graduates and commended CAU’s role in shaping future leaders in agriculture and allied sectors.
Quoting former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s & quote Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan," he inspired the youth to contribute aclively to lndia’s development joumey. Emphasizing India’s rise as a global power, he praised ISRO’s achievements and highlighted the role of agriculture in the nation’s transformation.
Dr. Narayanan encouraged graduates to align their personal goals with national aspirations, recognizing them as valuable assets to the country.
Presiding over the convocation, Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Kumar Joshi conferred degrees upon the graduates. In his remarks, he saluted the Indian Armed Forces and applauded the success of Operation Sindoor. He emphasized CAU’s regional significance and praised its initiatives in natural farming, organic agriculture, and research on medicinal and forest crops.
He urged students to contribute meaningfully to sustainable and inclusive growth. Vice Chancellor, Dr. Anupam Mishra welcomed dignitaries, faculty, and families, and expressed heartfelt thanks to Dr. Narayanan.
He reaffirmed CAU’s commitment to academic distinction, innovation in research, and societal impact through extension education.
Dr. Mishra congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to strive toward the nation’s vision during Amritkal- Established in 1993 as India’s first Central Agricultural University, CAU Imphal continues to be a leading institution dedicated to agricultural advancement across the Northeast.
The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem, marking a proud and memorable day for the CAU community, followed by a condolence for demise of a well-known agricultural scientist/former DG, ICAR and Secretary, DARE and Chancellor CAU (lmphal), Dr. Ayyappan.
