New Delhi, July 21 : In a significant development, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has submitted his resignation from office, citing medical advice and the need to prioritize his health. His resignation, addressed to the President of India, is effective immediately and falls under the provisions of Article 67(a) of the Indian Constitution.
In his heartfelt letter, Dhankhar expressed profound gratitude toward the President for her unwavering support and the “soothing, wonderful working relationship” they shared during his tenure. He also extended his thanks to the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, acknowledging their cooperation and invaluable support.
“The warmth, trust, and affection I have received from all the Hon’ble Members of Parliament will ever be cherished,” he wrote.
Reflecting on his time in office, the outgoing Vice President spoke of his honor in witnessing India’s “remarkable economic progress and exponential development” and called it a “transformative era” in the nation’s history. He added that it had been a privilege to serve during such a crucial period.
As he exits public office, Dhankhar said he is filled with pride in India’s global achievements and remains confident in the nation’s bright future.
Background: Jagdeep Dhankhar (born 18 May 1951) is an Indian politician and lawyer who served as the vice president of India from 2022 to 2025. He previously served as the Governor of West Bengal from 2019 to 2022. He also served as a Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in the Chandra Shekhar ministry from 1990 to 1991, and served as a member of Lok Sabha from 1989 to 1991. Between 1993 and 1998, he was a Member of Rajasthan’s Legislative Assembly. He has been affiliated with multiple political parties in India, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Indian National Congress (INC), and the Janata Dal(JD).
