Shillong, October 15 : A 14-member delegation of Journalists from Meghalaya and Tripura, currently on a press tour to Karnataka, today visited the Electronics Systems Division (ESD) of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) in Bengaluru, where they were given a comprehensive overview of the division’s technological strengths, strategic contributions and future-oriented initiatives in key national sectors. BHEL, under Ministry of Heavy Industries, Govt. of India, is one of India’s largest enterprises and operates in sectors like energy, transportation, defence and infrastructure, providing products and services for power generation, transmission, and other core industries.
The press delegation was welcomed and briefed by Anbalagan, General Manager of the Electronics Systems Division. In his address, Anbalagan elaborated on ESD’s critical role in delivering advanced electronics solutions for defence, power, space and industrial applications. He highlighted BHEL’s growing involvement in India’s energy transition through the development and deployment of solar power systems, as well as its continued support to thermal power stations by supplying control systems and automation technologies essential for efficient plant operation.
One of the major achievements underscored during the interaction was BHEL’s contribution to INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier. The Electronics Systems Division played a significant role in supplying vital control and instrumentation systems for the ship, marking a milestone in BHEL’s commitment to national defence and self-reliance.
The journalists were taken on a guided tour of ESD’s manufacturing facilities, R&D centers and testing laboratories, where they witnessed first-hand the advanced infrastructure and stringent quality processes that define BHEL’s engineering excellence. The visit provided valuable insights into the division’s capabilities in defence electronics, space-grade systems, transportation and industrial automation, as well as its alignment with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.
The interaction concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where senior BHEL officials responded to media queries and shared perspectives on upcoming projects, digital transformation and the company’s roadmap toward sustainability and innovation.
