Shillong, July 25: The Jaiñtia Students’ Movement, Central Body (JSM-CB), has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on taking strict action against NEET paper leaks and protecting the future of students, while calling for immediate and concrete action to ensure justice for NEET aspirants.
The JSM said that thousands of students from Meghalaya, particularly from Jaintia Hills, have been affected by alleged irregularities surrounding NEET UG 2026 and the long-standing neglect of the region. It stated that such concerns highlight serious shortcomings in the country’s education and examination system that could adversely affect the future of young students.
JSM-CB President Leningstar Rymbai said the Government must take immediate and stringent action against anyone involved in paper leaks, malpractice or the buying and selling of examination question papers.
He stressed that the future of students should not be determined by money, influence or illegal means, adding that if the Prime Minister has promised strict action, the public now expects concrete measures.
JSM-CB General Secretary Roitre Dkhar demanded a transparent, independent and time-bound investigation into the alleged irregularities surrounding NEET UG 2026. He said the examination system must be based on merit, fairness and transparency and that, if the investigation establishes that the examination was compromised, appropriate action, including a fresh examination, should be considered to protect genuine and hardworking students.
The JSM-CB also demanded the immediate establishment of a permanent NEET examination centre in Jaintia Hills, preferably at Jowai or Khliehriat, and urged the Government to establish NEET examination centres at all district headquarters across the country, particularly in Meghalaya.
Publicity Secretary Heihokmi Supuh said geographical location should not become a barrier to education. He pointed out that students from poor families are often required to spend significant amounts on travelling to other districts or States to appear for important examinations.
The JSM-CB has put forward a series of demands, including a high-level, independent and time-bound investigation into the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak and other irregularities; strict punishment for those found responsible for paper leaks, malpractice or the buying and selling of question papers; and a re-examination if the investigation establishes that the examination was compromised.
The organisation also reiterated its demand for a permanent NEET examination centre in Jaintia Hills and the establishment of examination centres at all district headquarters, particularly in Meghalaya, along with a transparent, fair and accountable examination system.
The JSM appealed to the Prime Minister, Union Minister of Education, National Testing Agency and the Government of Meghalaya to take immediate and concrete action.
The Movement stated that students are not seeking special treatment but justice, transparency and equal opportunity, and affirmed that it would continue to stand with the student community until these demands are addressed.
