Shillong, July 21: Meghalaya singer Kitkupar Nongsiej brought laurels to India at the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2026, securing three gold medals, two bronze medals and the prestigious First Place Scholarship Award.
The international competition concluded with an awards ceremony in Las Vegas, bringing together young performers from more than 70 countries.
Although Kitkupar, India’s lone finalist, did not win the Grand Champion Performer of the World title, he delivered an impressive medal-winning performance across several vocal categories.
He secured two gold medals and two bronze medals for the different song genres in which he competed, earning recognition for his vocal ability, versatility and stage presence.
Kitkupar also received another gold medal after finishing among the Top Five Vocalists in the highly competitive Vocalist of the World Championship. The honour placed him among the leading singers at this year’s global event.
In addition to his medal tally, WCOPA awarded him the First Place Scholarship in recognition of his talent and artistic potential. The scholarship is expected to provide opportunities for advanced training and greater international exposure in the performing arts.
His journey from Meghalaya to the global stage has generated pride among the people of the state, the Northeast and the Don Bosco community.
Kitkupar’s achievements at WCOPA 2026 have established him as one of India’s promising young vocal performers and an inspiration to aspiring artists across the country.
