Shillong, November 3: The Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian (KJP) Assembly, through its Mission and Evangelism department, has announced a major Gospel concert featuring internationally acclaimed American Gospel music group Maverick City Music, scheduled to be held on December 12, 2026, at Polo Ground in Shillong. The concert, titled “Maverick City Music Live in Shillong,” is being organised as part of the pre-Christmas celebrations and will also serve as a fundraising initiative to support various social welfare and community development projects undertaken by the KJP Assembly.
Announcing the programme through a press release, the KJP Assembly stated that the concert aims not only to provide a special Gospel music experience during the Christmas season but also to raise funds for initiatives benefiting communities across Meghalaya. Maverick City Music, a renowned Gospel music collective from Atlanta, Georgia, United States, has gained international recognition through its contemporary worship and praise music.
The KJP Assembly stated that the upcoming concert would provide an opportunity for people in Meghalaya to experience live performances by internationally recognised Gospel artistes. It recalled that Shillong had previously hosted prominent international Christian musicians and groups, including Bob Fitts, Petra and Don Moen, and expressed hope that the upcoming performance by Maverick City Music would be another memorable occasion for Gospel music enthusiasts.
The Assembly said the concert would provide an opportunity for people to come together in worship and praise through music while also encouraging and promoting Christian musical talent among young people in Meghalaya. Explaining the purpose of the event, the KJP Assembly stated that one of its primary objectives was to raise funds for various programmes and projects aimed at improving the welfare of communities.
These initiatives include assistance to people in need, educational programmes, healthcare support and other social development activities intended to bring positive changes to society. The Assembly expressed hope that the funds generated through the concert would help strengthen and expand its ongoing social welfare initiatives.
Meanwhile, the organisers have announced three ticket categories priced at Rs 1,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,500. Tickets will be available for purchase online through Rockski Tickets, and those interested in attending the concert have been encouraged to book in advance. The organisers also announced that donors contributing Rs 5,000 or more would receive a certificate signed by the performing artistes.
The KJP Assembly has extended an invitation to people from across Meghalaya and neighbouring states to attend the pre-Christmas Gospel concert and support its charitable initiatives. It also appealed to churches, pastors and church leaders to encourage their congregations, particularly young people and families, to participate in the event.
The Assembly emphasised that attending the concert would not only offer an opportunity to experience international Gospel music but would also contribute towards supporting programmes that benefit society. Expressing optimism about the event, the organisers said they hoped the concert would bring people together in a spirit of faith, unity and generosity ahead of Christmas.
The KJP Assembly also appealed to the media to help publicise the programme so that information about the concert could reach people both within and outside Meghalaya. The announcement was issued by Rev. S. Diengngan, Administrative Secretary of the KJP Assembly.
