New Delh, June 17 : The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) today disbursed over ₹300 crore in margin money subsidy to 11,480 service sector beneficiaries across the country under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). The disbursement was made against sanctioned loans totaling ₹906 crore.
KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar released the subsidy to the beneficiaries virtually from the Rajghat office in New Delhi. Ms. Roop Rashi, CEO, KVIC, and other senior officers were also present.
Chairman Kumar emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the PMEGP scheme has significantly strengthened the foundation of employment and self-reliance at the village level. He stated that the scheme is not merely financial assistance but has evolved into a social movement, connecting millions of youth, women, and artisans with self-employment and entrepreneurship.
The disbursement program saw active participation from all six zones across the country:
- Central Zone: Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand received ₹72 crore in subsidies for 2,403 projects, against loans of ₹218 crore.
- East Zone: Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands saw ₹22 crore disbursed to 996 projects, with sanctioned loans around ₹71 crore.
- North India: Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Rajasthan, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh received ₹61 crore in subsidies for 2,713 projects, with sanctioned loans of ₹184 crore.
- North East Region: Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura received ₹2 crore in subsidies for 81 projects.
- South India: Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry saw ₹116 crore disbursed across 4,565 projects, with loans exceeding ₹343 crore.
- West Zone: Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa received over ₹26 crore in subsidies for 722 projects, against sanctioned loans of ₹82 crore.
Since its inception until the financial year 2024-25, PMEGP has established itself as a cornerstone of entrepreneurship and self-reliance in both rural and urban India. A total of 1,018,185 micro-enterprises have been set up under the scheme, with sanctioned loans amounting to ₹73,348 crore. Against this, ₹27,166 crore has been provided as margin money subsidy to beneficiaries. The scheme has generated direct and indirect employment for over 9,004,541 people nationwide, making it one of the most effective self-employment initiatives in the country. KVIC states that this program not only promotes self-employment but also realizes the Prime Minister’s vision of a self-reliant India.
