Shillong, March 19 : Shillong Lajong FC produced a stunning late comeback to secure a 2–1 victory away from home against Chanmari FC, climbing to the top of the points table.
The hosts took the lead in the 16th minute through Christopher Kamei through a freekick, putting Lajong on the back foot early in the match. Despite the setback, Lajong showed resilience and character, pushing forward in search of an equaliser.
Their persistence paid off in first-half stoppage time when Phrangki Buam converted the penalty kick in the 45+2 minute to bring Lajong level going into the break.
The second half saw both sides battle intensely, but it was Lajong who had the final say in dramatic fashion. Deep into stoppage time, Buam once again stepped up, scoring the winner in the 90+5 minute to complete his brace and seal all three points for the visitors.
With this crucial win, Lajong move to the top of the table with 7 points from 4 matches, continuing their strong start to the campaign.
The team will now shift focus to their next fixture, another away clash against Gokulam Kerala FC on March 26 at 6:30 PM at the Payyanad Stadium, Manjeri.
