Shillong, August 13: The Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) has released updated and verified data related to the Intensified IEC Campaign 3.0, which was launched across the State on August 12, 2026, at Lady Keane College in Shillong.
According to MACS, 558 HIV-positive cases were detected among the general population in Meghalaya between April and June 2026, while 60 pregnant women tested positive for HIV during the same period.
The Society said the updated figures should be used for future reporting and communication relating to the campaign.
As per the HIV Estimation Report 2025, Meghalaya has 9,244 People Living with HIV (PLHIV).
Under the Intensified IEC Campaign 3.0, MACS plans to conduct 1,026 village-level meetings and 3,000 awareness sessions in schools, besides 85 awareness sessions in colleges.
The campaign will also include 30 folk performances and 30 flash mobs, while around 15,000 households will be covered through door-to-door awareness activities.
In addition, 12 special camps will be organised in government hospitals and 10 pop-up awareness booths will be set up across Meghalaya as part of efforts to strengthen HIV and AIDS awareness.
MACS has urged media organisations to use the updated and verified figures while reporting on the campaign in order to ensure consistent and responsible dissemination of information related to HIV and AIDS.
