Shillong, September 1: A Special POCSO Court in East Khasi Hills has convicted Teren Mawlieh in a case involving the sexual assault of his minor stepdaughter and sentenced him to multiple terms of imprisonment, including 30 years of rigorous imprisonment.
According to a press release issued by East Khasi Hills Police, an FIR was lodged at Mawngap Police Station on December 7, 2020, alleging that Mawlieh had committed penetrative sexual assault on his minor stepdaughter.
A case was subsequently registered under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Following investigation, the accused was arrested and a charge sheet was filed on February 5, 2021.
On August 28, 2026, the Court of Special Judge (POCSO), East Khasi Hills, Shillong, presided over by M.K. Lyngdoh, convicted Mawlieh in Special POCSO Case No. 06 of 2021.
The court sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 for an offence under Section 4 of the POCSO Act. In default of payment of the fine, he will undergo an additional three months of simple imprisonment.
He was also sentenced to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 40,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, with an additional four months of simple imprisonment in case of default in payment.
For an offence under Section 8 of the POCSO Act, the court sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000, while under Section 10 he was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment with a fine of Rs 20,000.
Police said the convict has already spent more than three years and 11 months in imprisonment and will have to serve a remaining sentence of 26 years and two days in jail.
The case was investigated by WPSI L. Kharjana, who is presently posted at Women Police Station, East Khasi Hills District.
