Marijuana, Tramadol & Nitrazepam Seized in East Jaintia Hills, Two Arrested

Khliehriat, August 19 : In a major success against interstate drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of East Jaintia Hills Police apprehended two individuals and seized a large quantity of narcotics, including 10.35 kg of marijuana, 2,736 Tramadol capsules, and 6,000 Nitrazepam tablets, during a naka operation under Lumshnong Police Station.

On the night of August 18, police received intelligence that suspected traffickers were travelling from Silchar, Assam, to Shillong in an MTC night bus carrying narcotics. A naka was immediately set up, and around 4:00 AM on August 19, officers intercepted the bus (Reg. No. ML-03-0222) near Lumshnong and apprehended the suspects.

The arrested individuals were identified as: Amol Nath (42), son of Shri Suresh Nath, resident of Sundari Part-III, Silchar, Cachar, Assam and Radika Ranjan Das, son of Late Ranjit Das, resident of Bamonchora, Komalpur PS, Dholai District, Tripura.

In the presence of independent witnesses, a search was conducted under Section 50 of the NDPS Act, leading to the recovery of:

  • 10.35 kg Marijuana
  • 2,736 Tramadol Hydrochloride capsules
  • 6,000 Nitrazepam tablets
  • 2 mobile phones

A case has been registered at Lumshnong Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and investigation is ongoing to trace the wider network and linkages.

The Superintendent of Police, Vikash Kumar, IPS, urged citizens to share information about those involved in such illegal activities. Authorities assured that informants’ identities will be kept confidential and suitable rewards will be given.
