Shillong, March 23 : Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Monday inaugurated the newly constructed building of Mawmihthed RMSA Secondary School at Sohra in East Khasi Hills district, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure across Meghalaya.
The inauguration programme was attended by Sohra MLA Gavin M. Mylliem, MDC T.W. Chyne, officials from the Education Department, local authorities, school management, teachers, parents and students.
Addressing the gathering, Rymbui expressed satisfaction over the completion of the school building under the RMSA scheme, stating that improving infrastructure is key to enhancing the learning environment and motivating students to achieve higher goals. He stressed that education should be holistic, encouraging students to actively participate in extracurricular activities alongside academics, while urging teachers to remain committed and adopt innovative teaching methods to meet evolving educational needs.
The minister also highlighted the importance of parental involvement, noting that close coordination between parents and teachers is essential for the overall development of students. Reiterating the government’s focus under Samagra Shiksha initiatives, Rymbui said efforts are ongoing to improve infrastructure, enhance learning outcomes and bridge gaps in access to education across the state.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Gavin M. Mylliem underscored the role of education in community development, while MDC T.W. Chyne appreciated the department’s efforts in upgrading school infrastructure and called for continued support to rural institutions.
The programme concluded with a cultural dance performance by students, highlighting the importance of the new infrastructure in fostering a better academic environment and holistic development.
