Mawphlang Gets New Office, College Posts, and Tourism Boost

Shillong, January 22: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the new office building of the Hima Mawphlang at Lumrynkew Mawiong, Mawphlang, in East Khasi Hills.

The Chief Minister described the inauguration as a “historic” occasion, noting that the Hima, with a history of nearly 1,000 years of sacred traditions, has functioned without a dedicated office space until now. He emphasized that Hima Mawphlang represents a significant part of the people’s heritage, standing as a symbol of culture, tradition, and identity. He also assured the Hima of financial support for the office’s infrastructure needs.

Recognizing Mawphlang village as a popular tourist destination, particularly known for its Sacred Grove and Heritage Village, CM Sangma announced the sanctioning of ₹25 crore through the Swadesh Darshan Scheme for tourism center and infrastructure development in the Sacred Grove area.

Further announcements included the sanctioning of posts for the Mawphlang Science & Commercial College, with classes set to begin this year. He also announced a ₹1 lakh grant for Mawphlang Secondary School and another ₹1 lakh for Sh. Pynshailang Lyngdoh and his group to purchase musical instruments.

The Chief Minister urged Hima Mawphlang to document its rich heritage for preservation and dissemination to future generations and the world. He offered the CM’s Research Grant to support research in relevant areas.
