Shillong, February 17 : In a statement, Wankitbok Pohshna, the State General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Meghalaya, has called for an immediate judicial investigation into the serious allegations made against the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM). Pohshna emphasized that the nature of the accusations—ranging from fake degrees to counterfeit certificates—warrants a thorough inquiry by a neutral agency to protect the future of students.
Pohshna highlighted the potential consequences of these allegations on students, particularly the possibility that fake degrees could damage their careers. “The faintest suspicion of fake degrees and certificates carries serious ramifications on a student’s future,” he stated, urging the government to take swift action.
The allegations have gained significant attention after they were raised by the Chief Minister of Assam. Pohshna pointed out that this development, along with the Assam Government’s threat to derecognize USTM degrees for government job applications, has made the issue even more pressing. He warned that such actions could severely affect the career prospects of many USTM graduates.
BJP Demands Immediate Government Action
According to Pohshna, the Government of Meghalaya must not wait for official communication from Assam and should immediately initiate an independent judicial investigation. “An independent inquiry will serve two purposes,” he added. “If the allegations are true, prompt legal action will help mitigate the damage to students. If the allegations are false, it will alleviate the fears among students.”
Pohshna urged the Meghalaya government to act promptly in the interest of USTM students and the integrity of the state’s educational system.
