Shillong, September 11 : The All Meghalaya Upper Primary and Secondary Deficit Pattern School Teachers’ Association hosted a felicitation programme at the State Convention Centre, Shillong, to honour the Government of Meghalaya for its continued commitment and reforms in the education sector.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, attending as Chief Guest, expressed deep gratitude to the teachers for the rare gesture of appreciation. “Leaders and officials rarely expect thanks for their duties, but this heartfelt acknowledgement is deeply moving,” he said.
Sangma highlighted the complex, long-term nature of education reforms, noting that decisions made today shape the future for decades. He emphasized that initiatives such as the MEG programme are built on dialogue with teachers and communities to nurture responsible citizens, not just improve pass percentages.
The Chief Minister also reflected on the legacy of his late father, a teacher, who inspired his lifelong commitment to education.
Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma lauded the teachers’ perseverance and collaborative spirit, describing the felicitation as proof of mutual trust between educators and the government. “Teaching is about inspiring, guiding, and uplifting society. There is no wealth greater than education,” he said. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackle challenges such as low enrollment and resource gaps, while encouraging teachers to continue shaping Meghalaya’s future leaders.
Commissioner & Secretary of Education Vijay Kumar Mantri, IAS, commended the association’s professionalism and constructive engagement, acknowledging their role in achieving long-awaited reforms, including the one-time payment of the CRG allowance after 32 years. He credited the Chief Minister for placing education among the highest priorities of the state’s 48 departments.
Association President Sengbat G. Marak expressed his heartfelt gratitude, recalling that the long-pending demand for allowances and the one-time payment of the CRG had finally been fulfilled after 32 years. Quoting, “Gratitude makes sense of the past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow,” he said the day was not just a celebration but a testament to perseverance, unity, and collective effort. He thanked the Chief Minister, and all who had supported the association in achieving this milestone.
The felicitation, themed “Honouring Vision, Nurturing Future,” featured vibrant cultural performances from Garo Hills and Malki Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Shillong, and the presentation of mementos to dignitaries.
