Meghalaya Government Postpones GHADC Elections Amid Unrest in Garo Hills

Shillong, March 11 : The Government of Meghalaya has decided to postpone the elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) in view of the prevailing situation in the Garo Hills region.

In a statement, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya said the decision was taken after reviewing the current law and order situation and the challenges being faced by the public.

“Looking at the current situation in Garo Hills and understanding the difficulties people are facing at the moment, the Government of Meghalaya has decided to postpone GHADC elections,” the Chief Minister said.

The announcement comes amid tensions and unrest in parts of Garo Hills following developments related to the GHADC election nomination process. Authorities had earlier imposed curfew and deployed additional security forces to maintain peace and order.

Further details regarding the new schedule for the GHADC elections are expected to be announced by the authorities in due course.
