Shillong, March 6: The Department of Education, Government of Meghalaya, has taken steps to ensure that candidates from the state appearing for the National Testing Agency (NTA) Common University Entrance Test–Post Graduate (CUET-PG) do not have to travel outside the state to take their examinations.
According to a press release issued by the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, the department has, as in previous NTA examinations, arranged a large number of compatible computer nodes so that candidates from Meghalaya can appear for such examinations within the state itself. However, the number of candidates registering for the examination has been increasing every year, creating a gap between the number of registered candidates and the available compatible computer nodes.
Despite the existing number of computer nodes, NTA examinations are being conducted regularly without causing inconvenience to candidates. However, in situations where a common paper attracts a large number of candidates, some may have to opt for second or third examination centres as per the rules and regulations of the NTA.
The release further stated that with additional computer nodes recently made available, candidates scheduled to appear for examinations on March 6 and 7, 2026 will be able to take their tests at centres within the state. For examinations scheduled between March 8 and 10, a significant number of candidates who were earlier allotted centres outside the state have been shifted to centres within Meghalaya.
Officials from the NTA and teams from TCS are also working to address the remaining gaps. The government has assured that despite the challenges, no candidate will have to travel outside the North-East region to appear for the examination.
Meanwhile, the government is in the process of setting up an additional 450 compatible computer nodes along with the required infrastructure at government educational institutions for establishing Computer-Based Test Centres. The addition of these systems, along with the existing nodes, will ensure that candidates from Meghalaya will not have to travel outside the state to appear for the CUET-UG examinations scheduled in June 2026.
