Meghalaya Gymnastics Team Shows Improvement at Senior National Championship in Bhubaneswar

Shillong, May 4 : The Meghalaya Gymnastics Association has expressed gratitude to the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, for its support and sponsorship to the state’s senior gymnastics team that participated in the Senior Artistic Gymnastics National Championship 2026–27.

The championship was held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from April 29 to May 3, 2026, and was organised by the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) in collaboration with the Odisha Gymnastics Association.

The Meghalaya contingent in the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics category included gymnasts Josephine Isabel Warjri, Bakmenhun Shangpliang, Wandalang Magdalene Malngiang, Athilia Susngi, and Edeva Synnah. The team was coached by Arjun Singh Khwairakpam, while Lucy Mary Malngiang accompanied the squad as team manager, overseeing coordination and overall functioning.

Although the team did not secure any medals, the association noted a significant improvement in the overall performance of the gymnasts. It stated that participation in a national-level competition provided valuable exposure and experience, allowing the athletes to compete against some of the best gymnasts in the country.

The association further expressed confidence that with continued training and the establishment of a dedicated gymnastics hall, as promised by the state government, Meghalaya’s gymnasts would be able to achieve better results and win medals in future competitions.
