Shillong, March 25 : Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the 7th Act East Business Show at the State Convention Centre, Shillong, marking a significant step towards strengthening trade and investment ties between North East India and BBIN & ASEAN nations. The three-day event, attended by ambassadors and representatives from 14 countries, aims to position Meghalaya as a key investment destination.
In his address, Chief Minister Sangma emphasized Meghalaya’s growing role in regional and international trade, highlighting the state’s focus on infrastructure development, policy reforms, and business-friendly initiatives. “What is most important for us as the state government and a nation is the strong partnership that we build,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of long-term collaborations. He also stressed the government’s commitment to sustainable growth, balancing economic development with environmental and cultural preservation.
“We must dare to dream big,” Sangma added, highlighting the state’s positive outlook and proactive approach to investment. He underscored the importance of inclusive development, focusing on Self Help Groups and cooperative societies.
Sniawbhalang Dhar, Deputy Chief Minister & Minister of Commerce and Industries, and Donald Phillips Wahlang, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Meghalaya, also addressed the gathering, highlighting Meghalaya’s evolving economic landscape and its growing global partnerships.
Dr. Vijay Kumar D, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Planning Department, delivered a multimedia presentation showcasing Meghalaya as an Investment Destination, outlining the state’s Model of Development, Mission 10, key growth drivers, investment incentives, and upcoming infrastructure projects. He detailed the state’s strategic roadmap to achieving a USD 10 billion economy.
Ambassadors and representatives from Germany, Thailand, the UAE, Indonesia, Australia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Bhutan, Nepal, and the Philippines expressed keen interest in strengthening investment ties with Meghalaya, praising Chief Minister Sangma’s leadership in creating an investment-friendly environment.
Mahesh Kumar Saharia, Chairman-NER, Indian Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the Government of India’s significant investment in the North Eastern Region and Meghalaya’s crucial role in the Act East policy.
The 3-Day Act East Business Show 2025 will feature round table discussions, B2B & B2G meetings, and strategic dialogues on enhancing regional connectivity and trade, reinforcing Meghalaya’s position as a gateway to South and Southeast Asia.
