Shillong, April 23: The Government of Meghalaya on Wednesday organised a high-level capacity-building workshop at the State Convention Centre to strengthen efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through data-driven governance and outcome-based planning.
The workshop, organised by the Planning, Investment Promotion & Sustainable Development Department in collaboration with the Indo-German Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP-GIZ), brought together key stakeholders to accelerate SDG implementation across the state.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner & Secretary Dr. Vijay Kumar D highlighted Meghalaya’s structured approach to SDG delivery, including the establishment of SDG cells in districts, deployment of District Research Fellows, and a grassroots data network of Village Data Volunteers. He also noted the expansion of the Chief Minister’s Catalytic Fund, enabling districts to access grants of up to ₹1.5 crore for targeted development interventions.
In his keynote address, Secretary (PIP & SD) R. Nainamalai linked SDG progress with the State’s “Viksit Meghalaya” vision, aiming for a $10 billion economy by 2028 and $100 billion by 2047. He emphasized Meghalaya’s distinction as one of the few states implementing an SDG-linked budget to ensure measurable outcomes.
The workshop focused on strengthening district-level data systems, outcome-based budgeting, vocational training in green jobs, and monitoring tools such as the Village Advancement Index and Meghalaya One Portal. East Khasi Hills was recognised as a leading district performer for its success in decentralised planning.
Officials stressed the importance of convergence, innovation, and accountability in achieving SDG targets, with Meghalaya aiming to become one of India’s top-performing states in SDG rankings by 2030.
The event featured multiple interactive sessions on data-driven decision-making, SDG monitoring, green skills development, and outcome budgeting, reinforcing the state’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth.
