Shillong, April 11 : In a significant initiative aimed at improving access to HIV/AIDS services in remote and underserved regions of the state, the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has donated a Mahindra Bolero vehicle to the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS). The vehicle was officially handed over by Malthus S. Sangma, MCS, Additional Secretary of the Assembly, on behalf of Speaker Thomas A. Sangma.
The handover ceremony took place in the presence of MACS officials, including Project Director Dr. Wallambok Langstieh. The Speaker, known for his ongoing support for public health initiatives, played a key role in championing this contribution.
The newly donated vehicle is set to be transferred to the Meghalaya State Network of Positive People (MSNP+), where it will serve a critical role in tracing and re-engaging individuals categorized as Loss to Follow-Up (LFU) cases. It will also aid in conducting awareness and outreach programmes across the state, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
“This has been a long-cherished aspiration—to have a vehicle capable of reaching rural areas and delivering essential services to people living with HIV who struggle to access treatment from Shillong,” stated Malthus S. Sangma during the ceremony. “We believe this contribution, under the leadership of the Speaker, will go a long way in strengthening our collective efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Meghalaya.”
