Shillong, October 31 : The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has earned national recognition for its remarkable strides in digital governance. The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, has awarded the Assembly a Certificate of Achievement for the successful implementation of the National eVidhan Application (NeVA) — a landmark initiative under the Digital India Programme.
The honour was conferred during the 3rd National Conference on National eVidhan Application (NeVA), held on October 30, 2025, at the Parliament House Annexe, New Delhi. The conference was inaugurated by Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.
A delegation led by Dr. Andrew Simons, Commissioner & Secretary, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, attended the conference and received the award on behalf of the Assembly.
The National eVidhan Application (NeVA) is a key component of the Digital India Programme, designed to transition India’s legislative assemblies into paperless, technology-driven institutions. The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has been among the pioneers in embracing this initiative, setting an example for other states.
Through NeVA, legislators can access questions, notices, rules of procedure, and the list of business digitally via tablets and other devices. The system enables real-time information sharing between the Assembly and various government departments, fostering transparency, efficiency, and accessibility in legislative processes.
By adopting a paperless workflow, NeVA has substantially reduced paper consumption, promoting eco-friendly governance. It also empowers members to submit questions, notices, and inputs remotely, thereby streamlining communication and improving responsiveness.
To ensure effective implementation, the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has organized regular training sessions for its Members, enabling them to make optimal use of the platform’s digital features.
