Sangma, are attending the 22nd Annual Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), India Region Zone-III, hosted by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in Kohima from November 9 to 13, 2025.

The conference was inaugurated on Monday by Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, who praised the North Eastern region’s cultural richness, diversity, and democratic spirit. He lauded the region’s legislatures for crafting policies aligned with local aspirations and contributing to inclusive development.

Birla highlighted the growing use of technology and artificial intelligence in legislative processes to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency, noting the region’s success in adopting paperless assemblies and maintaining disciplined proceedings.

In his address, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio urged legislatures to reaffirm their commitment to democratic ideals and cooperative federalism. He emphasized the importance of CPA Zone-III’s role in promoting inclusive policies and strengthening the North East’s integration with the rest of India.

Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, underscored the Union Government’s respect for India’s cultural diversity and its commitment to inclusive economic growth. He called for continuous dialogue between legislatures and citizens to ensure that governance remains responsive to public needs.

Representing Meghalaya, Thomas A. Sangma and Limison D. Sangma are actively engaging in sessions focused on strengthening democratic institutions, fostering inter-legislative cooperation, and sharing best parliamentary practices across North Eastern states.

During his speech, the Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly emphasized that the Legislature is not merely a law-making body but the architect of national policy. “Through the enactment of progressive and far-sighted legislation, the Legislature shapes the framework for economic growth, social equity, environmental protection, and technological advancement,” Sangma stated. “It is through sound laws that we transform aspirations into action and vision into reality,” he added.

He further underlined the Legislature’s role in ensuring accountable, transparent, and people-centric governance through questions, debates, and committee deliberations that hold the Executive accountable.
