Meghalaya Marches Towards TB Elimination with Awareness Marathon

Shillong, May 15 : Over 130 participants joined a marathon today in Shillong, organized by the Office of the District Tuberculosis Officer, East Khasi Hills District, and the Theresa Training Centre, to raise crucial awareness about ending tuberculosis in Meghalaya.

Themed “Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver,” the event commenced at the Theresa Training Centre. Dr. B Shanpru, the District Tuberculosis Officer, officially flagged off the marathon, stressing its significance in the fight against the disease. He urged the participants to become ambassadors for TB eradication by embodying the marathon’s powerful message through commitment, investment, and action.

The flag-off ceremony saw the presence of key figures from the Health Department, including Dr M B Kharshiing, Principal of Theresa Nursing College, along with staff and students from the Ganesh Das Government Maternal and Child Health Hospital and the Theresa Training Institute, demonstrating a united front in the effort to eliminate TB.

Meghalaya has significantly stepped up its efforts towards TB elimination, witnessing a notable increase in the Presumptive TB Examination rate and a encouraging decline in TB incidence since 2015, indicating positive strides in the state’s fight against the disease.
