Shillong, September 9 : The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), in collaboration with the Centre for Policy, will host the Meghalaya Media Meet 2025 on September 10 at Courtyard by Marriott, Shillong. The day-long event will bring together senior policymakers, journalists, and communication experts for meaningful dialogues, interactive workshops, and recognition of outstanding contributions in the field.
The flagship event will feature acclaimed personalities like, BBC South Asia Bureau Chief, Jacky Martens; Padma Shri awardee and Editor, Shillong Times, Patricia Mukhim; Two time Emmy-nominated multimedia journalist, Ahmer Khan; UNICEF India’s Chief of Communication Zafrin Chowdhury, and other award winning national and regional journalists and academicians.
The Media Meet will feature workshops on writing and mis-information detection, followed by interactive sessions on multimedia storytelling, the impact of deep fakes, and building reliable as well as inclusiveknowledge structures. The high-energy panel discussions will explore areas like equity for women journalists, democratic accountability of the press, and strategies for fighting fake news and digital disinformation. The final panel discussion will exhibit human-centric approaches to reporting, bridging date with lived experience in Meghalaya’s public health landscape.
The event will be graced by Conrad K. Sangma, Chief Minister; Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, Minister I/C Department of I≺ Donald P. Wahlang, IAS, Chief Secretary; Vijay Kumar Mantri, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, I&PR Department, and dignitaries from other allied departments.
A special highlight of the event, will be the felicitation of senior journalists, along with the provision of financial support to veteran media professionals, underscoring the State’ appreciation for their long-standingcontributions to public information.
The event is set to conclude with an interactive networking session, reaffirming Meghalaya’s commitment to inclusive, impactful and ethical journalism. Stakeholders will gain new knowledge of diverse tools, build valuable peer connections, and carry forward a shared momentum to strengthen trusted media and encourage active citizen engagement across the region.
