Shillong, May 2: Two members of MeSCMA have successfully completed mountaineering courses at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling, achieving the highest possible Grade “A” for their outstanding performance.
The training program, sponsored by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, took place from April 1st to 28th, 2025.
Balawanhabor Rynjah from Sankardev College secured the 1st position in the Sport Climbing Competition. As part of the height gaining training, Balawanhabor and the team of 65 trainees from the Advanced Mountaineering Course reached Camp I of Mt Kabru Dome.
Keliostar Pdai, a Battalion Constable with the 3rd MLP Battalion, along with 71 other trainees, successfully climbed Mt. Renok (16,500 ft) during the Basic Mountaineering Course.
The rigorous and transformative courses provided trainees with essential mountaineering skills. The curriculum included physical training, Yoga, rock climbing, ice climbing, jumar climbing, trekking, ice craft, crevasse rescue, map reading, rope techniques, and rappelling. This comprehensive training was designed to equip participants for the challenges of high-altitude mountaineering.
