Shillong, April 20 : The Government of Meghalaya has granted Special Executive Magistrate powers to senior police officers in the state.
Inspectors General of Police, Deputy Inspectors General of Police, and Superintendents of Police will now be authorized to:
- Make preventive arrests to maintain public peace.
- Seek bonds from individuals for good behavior.
- Act against those suspected of planning cognizable offenses.
- Demand security bonds from habitual offenders.
- Disperse assemblies using civil force.
- Issue conditional orders for nuisance removal.
- Impose prohibitory orders to prevent potential disturbances.
The government stated that these powers will be instrumental in controlling crime and maintaining peace and tranquility in the state.
