Shillong, July 28: Meghalaya’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026, has entered its final stage, with the house-to-house distribution and digitisation of Enumeration Forms scheduled to conclude on July 29, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer said. As of July 28, Enumeration Forms have been distributed to 23,40,764 electors out of the state’s total electorate of 23,49,645, achieving 99.62% coverage. A total of 22,78,071 forms have also been digitised, accounting for 96.95% of the electorate.
The Chief Electoral Officer held a meeting with representatives of recognised national and state political parties on Tuesday to review the progress of the SIR and the remaining work ahead of the publication of the Draft Electoral Roll. Political parties were urged to continue cooperating with election officials to ensure that every eligible elector is covered before the house-to-house phase concludes.
According to the Election Department, 2,24,435 electors, or 9.55% of the electorate, have been identified under the “No Mapping” category and require further verification. Another 1,49,656 electors, or 6.37%, have been identified under the Absent, Shifted, Death and Duplicate (ASDD) categories. These comprise 74,851 deceased electors, 37,914 shifted electors, 28,826 absent electors and 5,899 duplicate entries.
In addition, 2,166 electors have refused to submit their Enumeration Forms. The Election Department said these cases will be dealt with in accordance with the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, following due verification and after giving the concerned electors or their family members an opportunity to respond, wherever applicable.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has approved the rationalisation of polling stations in Meghalaya, resulting in the creation of 86 additional polling stations. The total number of polling stations in the state will consequently increase from 3,551 to 3,637.
With only one day remaining in the house-to-house phase, Booth Level Officers have been directed to make every effort to reach the remaining electors and complete the digitisation process within the stipulated timeline.
Electors who have yet to submit their duly filled Enumeration Forms have been urged to hand them over to their respective BLOs or submit them online through the ECINET App or ECINET Portal.
The Election Department warned that electors who fail to submit their forms within the prescribed timeline will not have their names included in the Draft Electoral Roll scheduled for publication on August 5, 2026.
The CEO’s office also acknowledged the contribution of DEOs, EROs, AEROs, BLOs, Booth Level Agents, political parties, Dorbar Shnongs, Nokmas, civil society organisations, community leaders and electors in carrying out the SIR exercise across Meghalaya.
