Shillong, March 30 : The U-17 football team from Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School, Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya, has achieved a historic 3rd-place finish in the 2nd Edition of the Indo-French Football Tournament, held in Paris, France, from March 25-29.
The team’s participation in the international tournament was earned through their runner-up position in the Subroto Cup 2024. Their journey to Paris included dominant victories, such as a 23-0 win against Daman & Diu and a 7-0 semi-final win, culminating in a 4-3 penalty shootout victory against Manipur in the final.
Prior to the tournament, the team underwent intensive training with Head Coach Bobby L. Nongbet, Coach Kitborlang Kharlukhi, and Manager Carmelius Ramshon.
The 16-member squad, fully sponsored by the Government of Meghalaya, competed against top French clubs. FC Versailles secured the 1st place, Sarcelles FC came in 2nd, Meghalaya FC clinched 3rd, and Grigny FC finished 4th.
The young Meghalaya team demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout the competition, securing their podium finish.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for football in Meghalaya and India, inspiring young athletes and showcasing the potential of Indian football talent on a global stage.
