Shillong, May 22 : The newest batch of Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) Officers, Batch of 2025, are currently undergoing an intensive Induction Training Programme at the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI) in Mawdiangdiang, Shillong, designed to equip them for the complexities of public administration.
A key highlight of their training today was a lecture delivered by Dr. Andrew Simons, Commissioner & Secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. Dr. Simons focused his session on the legislative process within Parliament, aiming to provide the officers with a deep understanding of law-making and their crucial role in supporting the Assembly’s functions. He urged the trainees to engage thoroughly with legislative procedures, emphasizing their importance in a democratic framework. Dr. Simons also discussed various legislative practices, procedures, and the essential relationship between officers and elected representatives.
The comprehensive training program at MATI is structured to impart extensive knowledge across administration, governance, and public service, ensuring the officers are well-prepared to meet the diverse demands of their future roles.
Following the informative lecture, the 35 MCS Trainee Officers made a courtesy call on the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Thomas A. Sangma, at his chamber in the Assembly Secretariat. Speaker Sangma extended a warm welcome to the officers, presenting each with a personalized letter of appreciation and offering words of encouragement. The session provided an interactive platform for the trainees to seek guidance and clarify their questions regarding legislative and administrative matters.
Beyond the classroom, the MCS Trainee Officers have also engaged in recent field visits to various districts across Meghalaya. These exposure trips are designed to provide them with invaluable firsthand insights into district-level administration and grassroots governance, effectively bridging theoretical knowledge with practical experience.
