Shillong, April 14: A missing .303 rifle reported from the MCCL Factory in Sohra has been successfully recovered, with three persons arrested in connection with the case.
According to police, the incident came to light on April 11, 2026, when Home Guards personnel on duty at the factory reported to Sohra Police Station that a .303 rifle had gone missing from the store room. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered and a case (Sohra PS Case No. 10/2026) under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was taken up for investigation.
During the course of investigation, two suspects identified as Shaiborlang Jyrwa (21) of Marai Thymmai, Sohra, and Sawbor Sooting (20) of Mawkisyiem, Sohra, were picked up for questioning. During interrogation, both admitted to having taken the rifle from the Administrative Building of MCCL.
Based on their disclosure, police conducted a search operation and recovered the .303 rifle, bearing number 3709740, from the residence of Alpha Mary Jyrwa Nongseij, grandmother of Shaiborlang Jyrwa, at Mawkisyiem, Sohra. The weapon was seized in the presence of independent witnesses.
Later, a third accused, Teilang Sohkhia (19) of Marai Thymmai, Sohra, was also apprehended in connection with the case.
All three accused have been arrested and are scheduled to be produced before the court on April 15. Further investigation is ongoing.
