Shillong, July 4: The East Jaintia Hills Police have solved the case of a missing man whose disappearance was reported last month, leading to the arrest of three accused persons for allegedly abducting, murdering and disposing of the victim’s body in an abandoned coal pit.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District, a missing person report was lodged on June 15, 2026, by the family members of Shri Kyrshan Lamurong, who had gone missing along with his Maruti Suzuki S-Presso vehicle.
Based on the complaint, Khliehriat Police registered Khliehriat P.S. Case No. 145/2026 under Sections 140(1), 142 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and launched an investigation into the matter.
Police said sustained investigative efforts involving both technical analysis and human intelligence led to the identification of three suspects. The accused have been identified as Kumar Barman (44), a native of Kokrajhar, Assam, presently residing at Cement Bazar, Umpleng, Meghalaya; Joysharon Barman (38), a resident of Chirang district, Assam, currently living at Cement Bazar, Umpleng; and Tensing Dkhar alias “Arki” (34), a resident of Mulait Sumer in Meghalaya.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to abducting Kyrshan Lamurong before murdering him. They further disclosed that they had disposed of his body in an abandoned coal pit at Rymbai (Dongkon) village in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Acting on information provided by the accused, police teams traced and recovered the victim’s body from the secluded location with the assistance of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Search and Rescue Team (SRT).
The District Crime Scene Unit also examined the scene and collected material evidence relevant to the investigation. A post-mortem examination of the deceased has been conducted as part of the ongoing probe.
Police stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain all the circumstances surrounding the crime.
